The average Chinese read 7.86 books last year, including 4.65 printed books and 3.21 eBooks, according to an annual poll released by the Chinese Academy of Press and Publication last Tuesday.

根据中国新闻出版研究院上周二发布的一项年度调查显示，去年国人平均图书阅读量为7.86本，其中纸质图书4.65本，电子书3.21本。

It surveyed 22,415 people in 52 cities.

共有来自52个城市的22415人接受了此次调查。

Those aged 14 to 17 read most - more than nine books a year. 90% of parents read to or with their children. 62% of Chinese read on WeChat.

14岁至17岁年龄段的人读书最多--每年超过9本；90%的家长会给孩子读书或陪伴孩子读书；62%的国人在微信上读书。

The survey also found that more than 17% of Chinese used audio books last year, a fairly new trend.

该调查还发现一个新趋势，去年有超过17%的国人使用有声读物。

Romance, history, languages and lectures were the favored audio content.

最受青睐的有声读物类型包括爱情、历史、语言和演讲类。

Xu Shengguo, Director of China Academy of Press and Publication Research Institute, said going back to hard-copy books is a worldwide trend, which has appeared in countries such as the U.S., the UK and France.

中国新闻出版研究院主任徐升国表示，回归纸质图书是一个全球性的趋势，并且已经在像美国、英国和法国这样的国家出现了。

"Although digital reading is quick and convenient, it's only suitable for fragmented reading practices, while reading hard-copy books are conducive to in-depth reading," Xu said.
